Starting in Rabac, the Ancient Towns of Eastern Istria route takes you inland through a part of Istria where history and cycling naturally come together. The 89 km loop climbs from the coast towards Labin before continuing through Kršan, Pićan, Gračišće and Žminj, with around 1,436 metres of elevation gain along the way.

The route follows quiet paved roads through rolling countryside, connecting hilltop towns, small villages and landscapes that feel far removed from the busy coast. Stop in Labin to explore its historic old town, discover the medieval character of Pićan and Gračišće, or take a break and enjoy some of the local flavours along the way.

With plenty of climbing but no single defining ascent, the route keeps changing pace and scenery throughout the day. It’s a rewarding choice for road cyclists who want to explore eastern Istria beyond the coast, combining a solid day in the saddle with historic towns, local traditions and classic Istrian landscapes.
